Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has warned its customers to remove illegal assets from poles so as to avoid hazards and continue to enjoy excellent service.
IKEDC, in a statement on Friday described the presence of illicit assets on poles as “flagrant violation and disregard for safety”, noting that it will put existing laws protecting the facilities to use, with punishment for offenders.
“Our attention has been drawn to the flagrant violation and disregard for safety around our electricity poles by individuals and some corporate organizations, for private and commercial use.
“It is imperative to state that these acts not only portend great danger to the perpetrators and memebers of the public but also inhibit our operations which ultimately affects the quality of service to our esteemed customers,” the statement partly reads.
The electricity company informed that to avoid dangers, its team of technicians will commence the removal of unauthorized assets on poles across the six business units as well as explore available extant laws guiding the use of the facilities, with a bid to prosecute errant offenders to serve as a deterrent to others.
The statement added: “This information is coming to you as part of our proactive approach for identifying risks and mitigating it, in line with our corporate policy of adhering to world class safety and regulatory standards for the well-being of customers and staff alike.”
